Maintenance Mechanic (Construction)

Performs duties of a Maintenance Mechanic, which includes knowledge in all phases of carpentry, electrical and maintenance. Tests critical systems. Installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains all locking devices which include security units, monitors, alarms, timing mechanisms; sensors and other equipment within security or surveillance systems. Sets up coding systems on various key types and keyways to ensure compatibility. Troubleshoots interrelating mechanism lockouts in security systems caused by defective parts. Interpret blueprints, building plans and wiring diagrams to determining the number of locks required, plan and layout the routing, placement, type, size gauge, balance, load, continuity and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. Installs distribution panels, boxes, fittings, connections, wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformer and other electrical devices. Refers to building plans, blueprints and wiring diagrams to install, modify, repair and maintain sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems, bathroom fixtures, sprinkler systems or domestic hot water systems and pressure piping systems. Plans and completes projects in carpentry using a broad knowledge of wood materials. Operates carpentry tools and maintains the tools to meet required specifications for safe usage. Assists in maintaining interior and exterior building operations and appearance by measuring, constructing, installing, modifying, repairing framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, trims. Assists in repairing and weatherproofing roofs and drawing on knowledge of roof construction tracing leaks to their origination and executing repairs in accordance with proper guidelines. Prepares surfaces for plaster application and determines the methods, techniques, devices and material that are best suited to the surface finish such as matching/blending, coating materials, and adding various agents to achieve the required texture or color. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Standing, walking, stopping, bending, climbing and crawling are required. Work may be performed in cramped or award positions. Incumbent will lift objects weighing 20-50 pounds and upon occasion, in excess of 50 pounds. Incumbent will be expected to work both in and outdoors and frequently be exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, dust, grease, heat, fumes and noise. Incumbent will be subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations or bruises. Incumbent will follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats and hard toed shoes.
