Supervisory Medical Instrument Technician (Cardiology)

Employee performs technical duties in the various laboratories of the Cardiology Section; this includes EKG section, Stress Testing Lab, Holter Monitor Lab, Nuclear Medicine, and other locations in the Clinic. This work includes but is not limited to:
Employee is responsible for performing electrocardiograms on patients in the clinic. Employee is responsible for performing pharmacologic stress tests and Exercise Treadmill Tests in the Nuclear Medicine Department and the Cardiology Department. Incumbent is responsible for attaching and removing Holter Monitor and other rhythm recording devices on patients, to include scanning of prolonged ambulatory monitoring reports. The incumbent serves as a first-line supervisor in the Medical Service, Cardiology Department, Echocardiography and EKG section. Incumbent is responsible for the MUSE archiving system for East Bay cardiologic procedures. The incumbent will serve as the Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) for Cardiology service. Employee performs technical duties in the various laboratories of the Cardiology Section; this includes EKG section, Stress Testing Lab, Holler Monitor Lab, Nuclear Medicine, and other locations in the Clinic. This work includes, but is not limited to:
Employee is responsible for performing electrocardiograms on patients in the clinic. This includes preparation of the equipment, marking the chest for proper lead placement, placing patient in proper position, instructing patient on proper breathing patterns, and selecting proper leads to be recorded. Employee is responsible for performing pharmacologic Stress Tests, nuclear Exercise Tests, and exercise Treadmill Tests in the Nuclear Medicine and Cardiology Departments. Incumbent is responsible for attaching and removing Holter Monitor recorder on patients. This includes checking, cleaning and de-magnetizing equipment prior to attaching to patients to ensure it is working properly. Employee is responsible for ensuring that all EKG, Treadmill, Holter, Echo, have all pertinent information recorded on them, annotating hard copies and distributing to proper areas. Employee is also responsible for logging in all tests performed in appropriate logbooks and maintaining files on each patient. The incumbent serves as a first-line supervisor in the Medical Service, Cardiology Department, which includes the Echocardiography and EKG sections. The scope of supervisory responsibility consists of a broad range of activities including patient reception, scheduling, patient records, maintenance of files, release of patient information, expendable and non-expendable supplies and equipment needs, Department Equipment Inventory List, forms and miscellaneous services needed. The incumbent is responsible for training and supervising the staff, as well as providing technical guidance and assistance. Directs on-the-job training to broaden employees' skills and to provide back-up skills by cross training. Incumbent is responsible for the MUSE archiving system for East Bay cardiologic procedures. He/she will ensure that all personnel at Martinez, Fairfield, Mare Island, CREC and Oakland are properly trained on use of the software and will be primarily responsible for quality assurance for the system. Incumbent will work directly with Biomedical Engineering to ensure the system is operating properly. Holter's and Treadmills are also on the MUSE system. The incumbent is under the supervision of the Chief, Cardiology Service who provides general work assignments. The incumbent is responsible for meeting goals, objectives, and deadlines of assignments. The incumbent is expected to handle these specific duties independently according to the policies and practice of the department. When conflict or unusual situations arise, the incumbent is expected to demonstrate initiative in resolving those conflicts and in reporting the nature of the situation and the action taken to resolve it to the supervisor. The supervisor reviews the incumbent's work for quality, adherence to policies arid results achieved. Work Schedule:

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) In addition to meeting the experience requirement, you will be rated based on the KSAs listed below:
1. Advanced knowledge of complex gastroenterology procedures, such as ERCP with spy glass, ablation procedures, mucosal resection procedures, fine needle aspiration procedures and capsule studies. 2. Ability to provide briefings and orientations, staff development and training to hospital staff including physicians. 3. Knowledge of professional, legal, and ethical standards inherent to patient safety and rights. 4. Ability to plan and assist in the establishment of integrated treatment and examination programs. 5. Ability to evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendations concerning developments which would improve operations. 6. Ability to manage the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (which would include fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget 7. Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties which would include responsibility for assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluation; selection of staff; and recommendation of awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions.
