Summary:
American Conservation Experience, a non-profit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking one individual to serve as a part-time Natural Resource Member for 16 weeks contributing to various natural resource and biological monitoring projects alongside Natural Resource Management Staff at John Muir National Historic Park.

John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez, CAACE EP duties may also be at neighboring National Park Service units of Rosie the Riveter / WWII Home Front National Historical Park and Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site.
The John Muir National Historic Site, located in the East San Francisco Bay Area, preserves the home of John Muir one of America's most famous naturalists and conservationist as well as over 325 acres of native oak woodlands, grasslands and other natural lands once owned and maintained by the Muir family, including Mount Wanda.

Living Allowance:
The ACE Member is expected to contribute 20 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $280 / week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing:
Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or the NPS.

This position may be eligible for a 300-hour AmeriCorps Education Award ($1,311.
11) upon successful completion of service hours.
Additional enrollment and volunteer service is required.
Scheduling:
The candidate selected for this position needs to be available during morning hours Mondays through Fridays.
Position Description:
In support of the mission of the National Park Service, the fundamental work conducted by the ACE Member will include maintaining and enhancing the natural and cultural landscapes of the park units, conducting biological and ecological inventories, monitoring of resources, leading stewardship projects, and restoring native and cultural lands by removing invasive species and promoting native vegetation.
Specific duties will include:
Assisting in planning and programming of natural resource management projectsHelping to implement projects, including:
biological inventory and monitoring, invasive plant monitoring and control, native plant restoration, and wildlife monitoring projectsCollecting and maintaining field data, including GIS and field notes, using standard protocolsMaintaining administrative documentation for resource management reportingAdditionally, the ACE Member will assist with conducting youth and volunteer stewardship and resource education programs and activitiesHelping to develop and implement youth, volunteer and community engagement efforts related to natural resource management, such as providing logistical support towards stewardship activitiesEngaging and training local youth interested in conservation and environmental science; providing mentorship in career exploration and developmentHelping to coordinate the work and schedules of local community interns and volunteers
Qualifications:
Required:
Deep interest in ecology, history, and respect for nature is criticalAbility to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, professional, contributing representative of ACE and the NPSMember must be able to provide own transportation to-and-from worksite base (John Muir NHS, Martinez)Ability to relate well with youth and volunteers in the field and serve as leader, mentor and role modelMust have effective communication skills with diverse audiencesAbility to perform duties, hike, and navigate on uneven terrain and work outdoors, in varying weather conditionsAbility to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation Must be between the ages of 18 to 30, Military Veterans up to 35 are encouraged to apply (This position's age limitations are a requirement of the Public Land Corps Act.

Preferred:
Relevant experience and/or a degree in environmental sciences, natural resource management, ecology, and other related field Experience with various field data collection methods using standard protocolsExperience with outdoor education and youth leadershipStrong desire to enter the public service field as a natural resource professionalBilingual applicants are encouraged and welcome.
